Our Tiny Home
View from our driveway, this 24' X 24' floorplan with 12' - 19' high ceilings, is everything we wanted in a home! Designed by Bruce Lanier Architect @ Standard Creative in Birmingham, AL (bruce@standardcreative.net), built by Travis March @ March Construction Pass Christian, MS 228-223-5136, and motivated by Tiny House Nation http://www.fyi.tv/shows/tiny-house-nation/videos/576-sq-ft-mississippi-memory-home
Steps
15' in the air! It's a wonderful thing to pass by this 100+ year old Live Oak that survived the storm!
South side of home
Facing south to take advantage of passive solar heating and shaded by the tree, the energy efficiency allows for income to be spent elsewhere!
Functional Art
These huge rolling doors are one of the coolest features of the home. The right door inset folds out to be a 10' long dining table. The door in picture contains the two 8' long benches!
Bedroom Views
With 19' ceilings on the north side, the bedroom feels open and inviting. Nestled in the Live Oak, we awake every morning to the sounds and views of woodpeckers and songbirds. At night, I here the "hooting" of our barred owl who keeps the rodents in check.
Luxurious Fans
These fans are not only beautifully BIG, they circulate air like nobodies' business! With the mini split in the main room, it is imperative to keep the air circulating. Kept on the lowest setting, these fans accomplish continual air flow with only a fraction of the utility cost. In the bedroom, the views out the window and the light cast on the walls at sunset is divine.
Bathroom Spa
It's important to splurge somewhere in a tiny house, and our bathroom was just that! With a 6' walk-in shower, dark gray tile, and wood accents, the bathroom is both luxurious and spacious. It's the one room you have actual "privacy".
Our Patio
From the bedroom, there is a wonderful view through the living room south to the sea. Separated by new pines and immature oaks, nature has reclaimed the space between us and the water, allowing for protection and privacy.
Little Living Room
Surrounded by windows, we don't sit on the couch for long as nature calls us outside. However, the open floor plan allows Roald I to talk while he is cooking and I am working on the computer. The custom windows are graded to withstand 160 mph winds.
Cute Kitchen
Butcher block countertops, pergo flooring, and wave tile blacksplash keep the kitchen "beachy" and fun. Open shelving allows for storage without closing in overhead space. The pass through above opens to a landing for an office space. Recessed lighting and hanging lamp allow us to control the light at night to fit the mood.
A splash of orange
With Roald being dutch, it was only appropriate to brighten up with our favorite color! The double sink and mini dishwasher make cleaning up a breeze! the window behind sink opens to let the fresh air in and drinks go out! Our next project will be to expand the island on end to allow for additional seating
Down Under
One of the main benefits of building 15' in the air, is the amount of space that can be utilized underneath
Outdoor Dining
We spend a lot of time eating here! It's cool and comfortable.......until late summer, then the heat and mosquitoes keep us in at night
Outdoor Space
With gardening, the outdoor potting space serves both as a bench, table, and storage for the propane tanks for fireplace.
